Fiji Department of National Roads Selects Computech to Implement SAGE PRO Financial System
Suva, Fiji - September 2005 - In 2005, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) proposed a loan guarantee to the Fiji government to assist in the process of moving the Roads Department of the Public Works Ministry to a Department of National Roads. The aim is to ultimately make the 28 Roads regional depots commercial entities over the next 3 years. A key aspect of this is the installation of a computerized Financial Management Information System (FMIS). Tenders were called and SAGE PRO (formerly ACCPAC PRO) was selected. Computech, Fiji's sole SAGE Pro Authorized Reseller, was awarded this contract by the Fiji Major Tenders Board.
The Asian Development Bank had indicated its preference for a system which was sold with source code so that their 3 million dollar Roads Asset Program (CONFIRM) could be integrated with the accounting system. SAGE Pro comes with source code and was deemed the most flexible and superior solution over all other major accounting systems.
In addition, the ADB wanted an overall approach to the Department of Roads developing IT system which would be sustainable once the hardware and software was put into place.
Fiji Ministry Of Health Outsources IT Consulting To Computech
Suva, Fiji - August 2005 - The Ministry of Health has, over the past several years, deployed an AusAid funded patient information management system and database for all hospitals in Fiji. This system, known as “PATIS” is now established across a large national computer network, including Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Taveuni, comprised of over 400 computers and 18 file servers.
This PATIS system has been designed to First World standards and enables ordinary members of the public to have easy access to their entire health history including date and type of diagnosis, treatments and medications no matter where they are in the country.
As this large nationwide computer and IT management system has grown over the past years, it has recently been reviewed and the Ministry determined the need to get additional expertise on the design, further development and maintenance of the system from the private sector in Fiji.
Dr. LDL Waqatakirewa, CEO Health has recently written a letter to the Government Computing centre [ITC], a strategic partner in all government computing systems, indicating “In order to provide the additional expertise necessary to advise and support our extensive IT networks, we have just completed a tender process in order to evaluate and acquire additional local IT resources. Acknowledging the limitations of our own IT staff, we have opted to outsource some of this work.
After a careful and extensive review, with important input from an outside IT expert from the international banking, input from the Public Service Commission, the Fiji Health Sector Improvement Program as well as our own MoH senior staff, we have selected Computech to provide this expertise and high level IT support.”
Computech has, since its engagement, begun a process of assisting the Health Ministry evaluate, redesign and optimize their national system of computer networks to operate in the most efficient manner in conjunction with the wide area “govnet” infrastructure provided by the Fiji Government’s ITC computing department. This work is intended to allow the Health Ministry networks to address their own business needs and continue providing their own critical operational requirements while working in conjunction with resources provided by ITC and in spite of any temporary interruptions in the ITC wide area network service.
Computech has also been working with the Ministry by providing software database development personnel to assist with the design and development of a laboratory module for the main PATIS database system being used around the country.
Computech Develops Supply Chain Tracking System for Bumble Bee Seafoods
Suva, Fiji - Feburary 2005 - Computech's has successfully developed and deployed a supply chain tracking system for Bumblee Bee Seafoods, LLC. Wayne Kotow, Bumble Bee Seafoods' Vice President of Information Technology and CIO, describes the project:
“Bumble Bee Seafoods, LLC is a worldwide operation that sources fish around the world and processes the fish in multiple locations until its final canned and labeled product. Bumble Bee Seafoods, LLC had a requirement to develop a tracking system to follow the movement of tuna throughout its supply chain processing. The goal was for the detailed data to be used for reporting and analysis to gain greater efficiency and profits. Computech IT Solutions, in Fiji, was chosen to aid Bumble Bee in creating this system.
“The new system was developed and deployed by Computech in the Bumble Bee Co-managed Fiji processing plant and tracks the tuna from the dock to the can capturing vital data like weights, pallet numbers, species, shrinkage, and related QA data. After minor alterations to the system for local currencies and weight translations, it was deployed by the Bumble Bee Operations team to all of the manufacturing facilities. This system has been very successful in aiding the Operations and QA teams with vital data to make business critical decisions.
“Future enhancements have been discussed and utilization of new internet based technology is opening opportunities to expand the usage of this system to other parts or partners in the Bumble Bee business.
“Thanks to Computech IT Solutions for being a great business partner and in a successful and rewarding project and we look forward to future development opportunities. ”
